From Traditional Recipes to Healthy Recipes

Now I really I want to tell you guys, how I transformed my taste from fat food to light food. It’s not that I don’t like fat food anymore, I just want to eat with quality. Actually my purpose here is not to make you stop to eat what you like, or make you start to do a detox diet, or try to convince you that your life will be much better if you turn vegetarian. It is far from me to show you what the best is for you or for your body, I’m not a doctor, nutritionist or a professional in the area of health. I am here just to say something: yes there are several ways to make your favourite recipes much healthier, without losing the flavour and keeping them cheaper and nutritious.

The first recipes that I remember learning were: cakes, brigadeiros (traditional Brazilian dessert), scrambled eggs and pasta. I still like to make all of these, but now I have just changed a little bit. The scrambled eggs we can’t change, because egg it is really healthy and nutritious, the only thing that we can change, is how to improve it. Today when I make a cake, instead of making chocolate cake or caramel cake, I make a banana cake with walnut or an apple cake. I also change the wheat flower to whole wheat flower, bleached sugar to brown sugar and sometimes I like to add some oats and seed flowers. You’ll see in the future, that it is much better to use fruits in your recipes. But some of them you can’t change, example, the brigadeiro Brazilian dessert, if you change it, it won’t be more fun to eat. Maybe if you change the chocolate in the recipe to cacao or use skim condensed milk, it will work, we can try to do that here together. Somethings in life you can’t change, you just have to accept and enjoy it. Just be careful to not overdo.

Every single day I learn something new, and I like that! I like to learn, I like to change and more than everything I like to eat the food I make, especially if it is delicious and healthy. It’s good when you learn to do a dish that you love so much, that you could even eat it for days, you come to understand of what is made, the nutritional value and its beneficial can bring to you. It is so nice to know that you are investing in themselves, both in physical as psychological. I am so excited that we will do this together.

The Food Pyramid is important because it helps you eat healthy!!! It shows the different food groups, what foods are found in them, and which the members of serving you should eat everyday.
Always bear it in mind and you'll grow strong and healthy!

2nd: Healthy Eating Plate


The Healthy Eating Plate, created by experts at Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School, points consumers to the healthiest choices in the major food groups. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s MyPlate, though it has been revised to reflect some key findings, still doesn’t offer the most complete picture when it comes to basic nutrition advice. The Healthy Eating Plate is based exclusively on the best available science and was not subjected to political or commercial pressures from food industry lobbyists. Here’s a table showing how the Healthy Eating Plate compares to the USDA’s MyPlate, section by section.

3rd: How to combine your food


For me, one of most nutritious food it is EGG. In the past it used to be the villain. But it  was never really. Look at the image bellow:

A mixture of childhood with maturity...

I am a Brazilian, born and raised in Rio de Janeiro. Yes, I am from a tropical country, with amazing fruits and vegetables. I remember in my childhood going to my family farm and harvesting some mangos, jabuticabas, sugar cane, and also I could have the chance to get some fresh milk from the cows and eggs from chickens and quails (my favourite egg). I used to spend most of my holidays with my bare feet on the ground, playing with the animals and the nature. I can still remember the smell of the morning with breeze from the mountains. I believe that my fascination with fresh food, and healthy nourishment come from the times I was there!
               But I forgot to tell you guys, that I also have some Italian influence on the way I cook. My father, he is Italian from Salerno, and he is a great cook as well. He has a pasta factory, since 1977, and it’s called Paladium.  I confess, he loves to eat, especially pasta with wine, of course he is Italian! I was able to learn from him how to cook and how to love to do that. To cook is not just to prepare food, but it is a pleasure and the best way to spend your time. Some people still think that food is just a way to feed your body, but it is one of the best ways to fill your soul.

               I decided to create this blog, because I really want to share with you, how to enjoy cooking, make this moment much more fun, and still eat healthy!
